Solar Energy

Brighten your day with clean, renewable solar energy

Saving money and energy independence is on everyone’s mind these days.  With the unpredictable cost of fossil fuels, a fragile electrical grid and a struggling economy it makes sense to create an energy strategy that provides a brighter, more secure future.  And now is the perfect time!  Not only has solar technology been proven effective over many decades, but today it’s more affordable than ever.

Solar Hot Water

Have you ever left a garden hose out in the summer sun?  The water in the hose gets very hot!  Now, imagine capturing that same power from the sun with a system that collects and stores the heated water so you can use it in your home or business all year long.

Solar hot water systems can easily satisfy 70% or more of the annual domestic hot water needs purely from solar energy.

Today, these systems are more affordable than ever.  Federal tax credits and state incentives are available!

Simple, proven and affordable solar domestic hot water systems designed by industry experts at Nashua Energy Options.

Solar hot water systems consist of four main components:

  • Solar Collectors –  flat plates, evacuated tubes or architectural
  • Storage Tank –  super insulated tank to retain solar heated water for times when the sun is not shining
  • Pumping system, controller and heat exchanger to move, manage and transfer the heat produced.
  • Back-up heat source to cover extended periods of cloudiness and short winter days.

Why change to solar hot water?

Solar hot water is the most efficient way to capture energy from the sun.  Modern systems convert 65-80% of the sun’s energy directly to heat.  While oil, propane and natural gas burners are approaching 85-95% efficiency, they are burning expensive fossil fuels.  Solar hot water uses naturally clean, free fuel from
the sun!

Common questions:

  • How big of a solar hot water system do I need?
  • How can I migrate to solar hot water?
  • Does a solar hot water system make financial sense right now?
  • Will a solar hot water system increase the value of my house?

Solar Electricity

Photovoltaic (PV) technology transforms sunlight into electricity.  It’s reliable and virtually maintenance free, it does not produce greenhouse gases and it’s renewable!  A kilowatt of PV prevents 150 pounds of coal from being mined.

There are three types of solar electric systems:

  • Grid-tied
  • Grid-tied with battery back-up
  • Off-grid

Solar electric systems consist of the following components:

  • Solar Modules – solar panels are embedded with PV cells to generate direct current (DC) electricity.  There are three types of solar modules: single-crystal cells, polycrystalline cells and amorphous silicon.
  • Inverter –  micro and whole house inverters convert DC power to AC power which is used in most buildings.
  • Proper disconnects a n over-current protection (common in any electrical system)
  • Batteries to store excess electricity (used only in Grid-tied battery back-up systems and off-grid systems)

With these basic components you can generate electricity for use in your home or business.  Excess electricity can be fed back to the grid for full retail credit (net-metering)!

Common questions:

  • How big of a solar electric system do I need?
  • Can I really make my meter spin backwards?
  • Do solar electric systems make financial sense right now?
  • Will a solar electric system increase the value of my house?
